Now we’re in the yard.
Aunt Mary’s car is coming, coming.
And all of our plans
are giants in this light,

now that we’re coming away.
We are coming away, everything’s changed.
Everything’s different now.
Everything, even the sun.

You say suddenly you
cannot see yourself out in the world.
With your school suitcase.
Tomorrow — well, you don’t know,
you don’t know.

We’re coming away
we are coming away, everything’s changed.
Everything’s different now.
Everything, even the sun.

As a present for myself, whilst ordering school books the week before school started, I ordered The Innocence Mission’s album Glow.  Their first album, I think, but new to me.   It may be simply my projections upon it, or it may be inherent in the music, but it seems these songs sing to just where I am right now: facing a large world, afraid, excited, learning more each day and seeing how much more there is to know.

And so I drive home, with the night that comes sooner under the trees, and I am full of thoughts that sing with the music.  And, while everything is different now, there are a great many things that change not at all, and homecoming is glorious.
